Well, readers - I really tried on this one! My husband and I have been making soap for three days, and the outcome of our attempts isn't anywhere close to as beautiful as the Semi-Precious Stone Soaps created by Fran on her blog, Fall for DIY. Please, please go check out her site - her soaps look amazing, and she has so many different crafts to choose from!
I started this project by attempting to make the soaps just like Fran did. The first big fail was that my silicone mold did not set. At all. I pushed and pulled at the silicone in the water for close to 10 minutes, let it sit overnight, then the next day, it all squished together and ended as a wet, soppy mess.
Not good at making silicone molds (like me)? Never fear! I found and followed Alaiyna B's PVC soap mold tutorial, and the shape of the soap came out great! The downfall to this method is that the mold has to remain flat on a surface - you can't tilt while pouring to get Fran's fun, blended effect. For the individually colored soaps, I just bought a soap mold on Amazon! Worked like a charm.

Big fail number two - the colors from my soap flakes wouldn't stop blending into the clear and opaque soaps. So instead of the whites and clears in Fran's soaps, mine turned out blue and gray and odd.
But, I kind of like the soaps. Where the color did stick, you can see the swirl found in natural stones, and the blending of the colors was fun! I added grapefruit extract to my soaps, so that I could get a hit of energy in the mornings. They smell great! Overall, I'm pleased.
What's your favorite soap scent?
Happy crafting! Until next time!
